The OTU Specialist Metrics Standard

Establishing measurable benchmarks for kickers, punters, and long snappers.

Off The Uprights believes specialist evaluation should be grounded in measurable performance, development over time, and consistent execution.

  • Why Metrics Matter

Specialists are often evaluated through rankings, star ratings, or camp exposure. While those systems can create visibility, they rarely explain what college coaches actually measure when evaluating specialists.

The OTU Specialist Metrics Standard focuses on the measurable performance indicators that consistently appear in college evaluations.

These benchmarks are not rankings. They are development markers that help specialists understand how their performance compares to typical college expectations.

OTU Development Philosophy

Development Matters More Than Labels

Specialists develop at different speeds. Some athletes reach their peak early, while others continue improving through their junior and senior seasons.

The OTU Metrics Standard focuses on progress over time, encouraging athletes to track measurable improvements rather than chasing early labels.

Coaches ultimately recruit specialists who demonstrate:

• consistency
• measurable power
• repeatable mechanics

Development, not early recognition, determines long-term opportunity.

Development Over Time

Specialists rarely reach their peak performance in a single season.

The most successful athletes track their metrics over multiple years, steadily improving power, consistency, and execution.

OTU encourages specialists to record and monitor measurable performance indicators throughout their development.

Progress over time provides a far more accurate picture of recruiting potential than a single evaluation event.

A Standard for Specialist Evaluation

The OTU Specialist Metrics Standard is designed to provide clarity for athletes, families, and coaches navigating the recruiting process.

By focusing on measurable benchmarks rather than labels, specialists can better understand where they stand and what development areas remain.

As the platform grows, OTU will continue refining these benchmarks based on performance data and evaluation trends across the specialist community.

OTU Watch List Integration

Specialists featured on OTU Watch Lists demonstrate measurable development within these benchmark areas.

Watch Lists highlight athletes who are progressing toward college-level performance standards.
