The Specialist Metrics Standard

Establishing measurable benchmarks for kickers, punters, and long snappers.

Built around development, consistency, and what actually translates over time.

  • Why Metrics Matter

The approach to specialist recruiting is built on a simple idea:

    Development matters more than labels.

An athlete is not defined by a single ranking, a single camp, or a single moment.

  • A circular emblem with black and gold colors displaying the phrase "Off the Uprights" at the top, a shield at the center, laurel wreaths, and a lion's head at the bottom. It includes the words "OTU," "Specialist Metrics," and "The Standard."

Kicker Performance Benchmarks

Field Goal | Kickoff | Consistency

  • Development Level

Athletes in this stage are building their base and establishing consistency.

    Field Goal Range:
    45–50 yards

    Field Goal Accuracy:
    75–85%

    Kickoff Distance:
    55–60 yards

    Kickoff Hang Time:
    3.5–3.8 seconds

    Focus: Mechanics, Repeatability, and Strength

  • Recruiting Level

Athletes in this range begin to draw college interest based on consistent measurable performance.

    Field Goal Range:
    50–55 yards

    Field Goal Accuracy:
    80–90%

    Kickoff Distance:
    60–65 yards

    Kickoff Hang Time:
    3.8–4.0 seconds

Focus: Consistency, Accuracy under pressure, and Verified results

  • Elite Level

Athletes at this level demonstrate high-level consistency and performance that translates directly to college environments.

    Field Goal Range:
    55+ yards

    Field Goal Accuracy:
    85–95%

    Kickoff Distance:
    65+ yards

    Kickoff Hang Time:
    4.0+ seconds

Focus: Performance under pressure, Repeatability, and In Game Translation

Punter Performance Benchmarks

Distance | Hang Time | Control

  • Development Level

Athletes building foundational mechanics and ball striking consistency.

    Punt Average:
    38–42 yards

    Hang Time:
    3.8–4.2 seconds

    Directional Control:
    Developing

Focus: Drop consistency, contact, and directional control

  • Recruiting Level

Athletes producing measurable results that attract college evaluation.

    Punt Average:
    42–45 yards

    Hang Time:
    4.3–4.6 seconds

    Directional Control:
    Consistent

Focus: Consistency, Directional Punting, and Field Control

  • Elite Level

Athletes demonstrating high-level performance and control in all phases.

    Punt Average:
    45+ yards

    Hang Time:
    4.6–5.0 seconds

    Directional Control:
    Advanced

Focus: Full-field control, consistency, and game-level execution

Snappers Performance Benchmarks

Velocity | Accuracy | Consistency

  • Development Level

Athletes developing mechanics and baseline snapping speed.

    Snap Time:
    0.80–0.75 seconds

    Accuracy:
    Developing consistency

Focus: Form, consistency, and repeatable motion

  • Recruiting Level

Athletes producing consistent snaps at competitive speeds.

    Snap Time:
    0.75–0.70 seconds

    Accuracy:
    High consistency

Focus: Speed with control and repeatability

  • Elite Level

Athletes demonstrating elite-level speed and precision.

    Snap Time:
    0.70–0.65 seconds

    Accuracy:
    Elite consistency

Focus: Speed, precision, and performance under pressure

Progression Matters

These benchmarks are not meant to define an athlete in a single moment.

They are meant to show what progression looks like over time.

An athlete may not start in the recruiting or elite range. That is expected.

What matters is:

  • Steady improvement

  • Consistent development

  • Measurable growth

The athletes who continue to develop, stay consistent, and understand the process are the ones who position themselves for opportunity.

From Metrics To Opportunity

The Metrics Standard connects directly to the broader ecosystem.

These benchmarks help inform:

  • athlete evaluations

  • watch list considerations

  • recruiting visibility

  • and long-term development tracking

They are not the only factor.

But they are a critical part of understanding where an athlete stands.

See where you stand.
Know what comes next.
